South Wales Coalfield Collection at Swansea University - this is a huge archive of information. There are photographs available on a slide show facility if you have an up to date browser.
This site, originally just Gwent mines, now covers the whole of Wales - Welsh Mines

Cefn Coed Colliery - I've visited this during a wet week in Port Eynon. There is an underground gallery and a very slick presentation of the local coal mining industry in the old engine room, which features the original steam engines, turned now by electricity.
You can go down this mine - Big Pit, Blaenavon
This colliery is famous by being the last operating in the South Wales Coalfield - Tower Colliery
